This is why you should never soak opal, or in my opinion, any crystals in salt water.
It was fine 6-8 months ago when I first did it, when I didn’t know any better. Then it got fuzzy. And then a small chip came out. Just now in moving it off my alter to use in a crystal garden 3 prices came off. I looked at the big piece for weak points and it all came apart. So I’m going to bury it, returning it to its mother earth and try to find a replacement at Bliss Crystals. I’m bummed it didn’t happen earlier, they JUST had a Facebook Live sale with green opals!
(This is another reason I love the Sortly App, I can see what a crystal looks like when I bought it compared to how it looks now.)
UPDATE: I so love the people at Bliss Crystals! They saw me share this within their Bliss Community Facebook Group and in my last shipment, their free gift was a green opal — with a vug!
