Four-fold Dreamcatcher

Like most of my art, this unique dreamcatcher started as an idea in my head.  I was looking for a representative of the four-fold goddess, elements, seasons and medicine wheel on Etsy and I just couldn’t find anything that came close to my vision.  So I watched a few YouTube tutorials and got to weaving!  After undoing and redoing a few times, I got the hang of it and am very happy with how it turned out.

Golden brass hoops are left bare for a modern esthetic and instead of sinew I used waxed cotton for the weaves.  Each of the four interior dreamcatchers are styled after one of the major phases of the moon: New, Waxing, Full, Waning.  The crystal in featured in each dreamcatcher was selected for the goddess of that moon phase and appropriately wrapped:

  • Tibetan Black Quartz for the earthly, winter Crone, simply wrapped around the middle, as if being lowered into the earth.
  • Clear Quartz for the airy, spring Maiden is unencumbered with a nearly invisible side wrap.
  • Ocean Jasper Heart for the creative, summer Mother is embraced in its wrap, where two halves create a third.
  • Golden Citrine for the metal, autumn Queen is encircled, like a crown.

I’m not a big fan of feathers, so i chose to make the tail of the catcher with yarn fringe and accented with golden threads, metal feather charms, geode slice and strings of crystal chips of citrine, quartz and tourmaline.

UPDATE: I shared a photo of the dreamcatcher to one of my crystal communities where it caught the eye of a local crystal shop who has commissioned me to create a very large dreamcatcher to display in their window!
